Our Organisation including RE:generate in Africa

Action to RE:generate Trust is a charitable trust (No 1078551) that developed from an organisation originally set up by two Social Entrepreneurs in 1990. It aims to address poverty and to promote and support democratic action to tackle the root causes of poverty. To this end its founders, staff and volunteers have been involved in deep and respectful listening to over 250,000 people from over 75 towns, cities and villages in the UK and Africa in the last 16 years. This is "Listening Matters" - and it has resulted in projects, organisations, jobs, opportunities and income for hundreds of the most excluded people in marginalised communities.

RE:generate has broken the mould by putting the last 15 years of thoughtful and reflective development into a single completely cross-cutting and sustainable process that:

It is not a “woolly” idea - it is specific, purposeful, focused and business like activity that will:

From our experiences over the last 15 years we have developed a holistic system for generating social, economic, cultural and environmental development and engagement. It is a process which transforms communities into vibrant, exciting, enterprising, democratic, accountable centres for sustainable activity.

One of the most exciting achievements in the the last five years has been the development of RE:generate in Africa, an autonomous Charitable Trust set up in Africa to develop thework and demonstrate it as an exciting and innovative way to combat poverty. Dominic Munchindu, the Chief Executive in Zambia says,

"The RE:generate process puts power ad responsibility at the heart of the work. The people here make the decisions about direction so every body is highly motivated. I have seen scores of NGOs come and go in the last twenty five years. The RE:generate initiative is the most significant and effective in terms of building local people's capacity to tackle their concerns."
